Madrid is full of lively streets, colourful parks, excellent cafes, and elegant boutiques. There are lots of activities you can do! This city is, without doubt, the perfect destination for people who love art in all its forms.
The best way to enjoy all those genuine pleasures is staying in a holiday apartment in one of Madrid’s neighbourhoods. Each one has its own and special personality, so you will discover the city from anywhere you stay!

What to do in Madrid

Art is present in most of Madrid’s buildings. You will be amazed by the architecture of the Royal Palace, the Cathedral or the “Plaza Mayor”. Also, the perfect places to appreciate European Art are some of the most important museums in Madrid: El Prado, Reina Sofia, and Thyssen-Bornemisza. On these walls, you can admire the works from the most famous artists like Velázquez, El Greco, Botticelli or Monet.
Madrid is also known for its large parks, especially The Retiro. However, there is a secret place away from the tourists: La Quinta de Los Molinos. This park located in the neighbourhood of San Blas, and is full of almond trees that every spring turns the landscape into a peaceful oasis. It’s a spectacular image! To get more of a feel for the city, we recommend special places like El Rastro, an open-air flea market held every Sunday where you can find lots of different products from clothes to antique objects.
If you prefer to get some air and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can always rent a villa to spend some days relaxing. Did you know that villas in Spain are very common? Tips

• Madrid is a capital city which makes most people think they need to spend hours in taxis to get from A to B, however please note that this is not the case. There is a great public transport system in place, with a Metro that is open until 1.30am to get you home after dinner and drinks. Buses are also very reliable.

• Speaking of dinner and drinks, when it comes to asking for the bill (la cuenta), please bear in mind that some places still don’t take plastic cards.  Try to ask before you sit down to make sure you have enough money to cover the bill in cash if not.  There are many ATM’s over the city and a local can direct you to the nearest one.

• When abroad many people buy bottled water to ensure they do not come down with an illness on their holiday, however Madrid prides itself on the fact that they have the best tap water in Spain. So maybe consider ditching the bottled water and saving some money to put towards other fun aspects of your holiday.

• Please try to visit a museum or two if you can, often (which seems to be common throughout Spain) you can gain free entrance later on in the afternoons (or on some Sundays) so please check out the websites so you can enjoy all Madrid has to offer.
