Introduction to Barcelona

Are you looking for holiday rentals in Barcelona to get a closer look at one of the most visited cities in the world?

Barcelona is a unique and cosmopolitan city of great cultural, commercial, financial and tourist importance. It’s one of the most visited cities in Europe because of its lively environment and all the cultural events that you can find there.

So, if you want to discover every single secret, the best option is getting a holiday apartment in the very heart of Barcelona, so you can access all the different neighbourhoods easily.

What to do in Barcelona

Barcelona is a Modernist city, so you will find a lot of beautiful buildings and parks. In fact, a lot of the apartments for rent in Barcelona that you will find here in Endeus have a touch of modernism about them.

But what is Modernism exactly? It’s an art movement that took hold of Catalonia and Barcelona and has been expressed most famously in the architecture. Catalan Modernist buildings are dominated by curves, richly decorated, often inspired by natural and organic elements, and dynamic shapes. Really beautiful!

Gaudi is the best-known artist of Modernism. So, don’t forget to visit the Sagrada Familia, the Guell parc, the Batllo house and the Pedrera house.

Barcelona has a lot of attractions. Its streets are very dynamic and full of joy. The Catalan cuisine is so delicious. You can go to the beach and have a paella, or try some “bombas” in the Barceloneta neighbourhood. There are lots of restaurants and bars in all over the place.

Are you looking for some activities out of the ordinary? Then you can’t miss the bunkers in neighbourhood of El Carmel. Its magnificent views over the city will leave you breathless! After visiting the bunkers, you can spend the evening observing the stars through the old telescope of the Fabra Observatory.

Museums, cultural events, shows, parks, nature… There are lots of things to do in Barcelona!

Tips

• Barcelona is a marvellous city but it has somewhat of a reputation for pickpockets, so please don’t let your holiday be ruined by a lack of some simple ‘rules’ to try to avoid becoming a victim. An over-the-shoulder bag with a zip for ladies and gentlemen putting their wallets in inside coat pockets with a zip or button is a really good way to protect your property. Remember – a ‘selfie’ stick, a large paper map and bright gaudy a-typical holiday clothing makes you stand out as a tourist.

• Ask for directions and try to do so in CATALAN if you can. Even a word or two of Catalan instead of Spanish will go a long way with a local. Saying hello, goodbye, sorry and thank you is a great start (hola, adeu, lo siento, gracias), so go ahead and try to use these new words.

• For those of you who don’t really like climbing hills or mountains please note that there are a plethora of hotels in the city that allow you to use their roof terrace bars, which have stupendous views of the city skyline. • Lastly, please try Churros con Chocolate which are delightful to savour while sitting on a nice terrace in a plaza watching the world go by. Or for the more adventurous try Leche de Pantera, which is an alcoholic milky cocktail topped with Cinnamon powder.
